What is bacteriostatic water?
Sterile water containing roughly 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. It is a solvent supply used to reconstitute lyophilized materials and has no biological activity of its own.
How is it different from sterile water?
Plain sterile water contains no preservative, so a vial is single-use once opened. The benzyl alcohol in bacteriostatic water suppresses bacterial growth, which is what allows a vial to be entered more than once.
