Why the material ships dry

Lyophilization removes the water. What remains is a dry cake with very little for hydrolysis to work on, which is why a sealed vial survives a few days at ambient temperature without a meaningful change in purity. That property is the reason research peptides ship dry rather than in a cold chain, and it is why a courier bag crossing Vietnam in August is not the problem people expect it to be.

This is a statement about sealed dry powder specifically. It stops being true the moment you add water.

Sealed vials, before reconstitution

Long term, a freezer at around minus 20 degrees is the standard. In a Vietnamese apartment a normal refrigerator is the practical answer and is sufficient for the storage periods most people actually need.

The thing that matters more than the exact temperature is stability. Repeated warming and cooling is harder on the material than sitting steadily at a slightly higher temperature, so the shelf of the fridge beats the door, which is opened constantly and swings several degrees.

Keep the vial in its box. Light is a slower problem than heat but it is a real one, and the carton solves it for free.

Humidity only reaches the powder if the seal is broken. An intact crimped vial is closed to the room. A vial whose stopper has been pierced, or whose seal was disturbed in transit, is no longer isolated from Vietnamese air.

After reconstitution

Once the solvent is in, the clock runs differently. The solution goes in the refrigerator, not the freezer: freezing and thawing a reconstituted peptide drives aggregation and you get losses each cycle.

Bacteriostatic water is the usual solvent precisely because the benzyl alcohol in it suppresses microbial growth, which is what makes a multi-entry vial workable at all. Sterile water and saline contain no preservative, so a vial reconstituted with either is a single-entry vial.

Keep it out of light and keep it upright. Cloudiness, visible particles or a solution that will not go clear are all reasons to stop and ask rather than to proceed.

Practical notes for Vietnam

A motorbike top box in the afternoon sun is the worst container in this country. Surface temperatures inside one go well past anything the material will see in a courier bag. If you are collecting an order, put it in a bag rather than the box, and get it into a fridge rather than leaving it on the ride.

Air-conditioned rooms in Da Nang and Nha Trang swing hard between night and day when the unit is off. A fridge removes that variable entirely and costs nothing extra.

Domestic flights are fine for sealed dry vials in carry-on. Checked hold temperatures are less predictable and there is no reason to accept that variability when the vial fits in a pocket.
